    Cheryl D. S. Walker Speaker at AIA Contract Document Workshop

    RSHC Of Counsel Cheryl D. S. Walker will be presenting at the April 23 AIA (American Institute of Architects) Contract Document Workshop for engineers, contractors, and architects in St. Louis, MO. She will lead two sessions, one providing instruction on AIA short form construction contracts, including the recently released AIA A104, and the other a case study that will examine a contract for the construction of a café within a retail store.

    Ryan Poscablo Co-Presenter at NACUA Conference – Current State of the Equal Pay Act

    2018 marked the 55th anniversary of President Kennedy’s signing into law the Equal Pay Act (the “1963 Act”), which amended the Fair Labor Standards Act and aimed to abolish wage disparity based on sex. At the April 4 National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) Conference, RSHC Partner Ryan Poscablo will take part in a panel discussion exploring the current state of the law, the various state laws that have been passed, and how colleges and universities can proactively address pay equity issues before being targeted for internal complaints, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission charges, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs investigations, and private litigation.

    Feminist Hit Music and How It Inspired Patricia Brown Holmes

    RSHC Managing Partner Patricia Brown Holmes was the special guest on the March 15 Rare & Scratchy Rock ‘N Roll retrospective podcast hosted by Radio Dave Milberg featuring 30 Feminist Hit Singles Before Their Time between the 1950’s and 1990’s. The history and snippets of thirty (30) hit songs about female empowerment by Aretha Franklin (Respect), Helen Reddy (I am Woman), Gloria Gaynor (I Will Survive), and more were remembered for their strong and positive impact.

    Patricia Brown Holmes 2018 HOW Forum Final Keynote Speaker

    RSHC Managing Partner, Patricia Brown Holmes, closed out the November 1-2, 2018 HOW Forum sharing stories about her family and career, while tying in lessons learned throughout the Forum. She spoke about how the qualities of resilience, strength, and determination allow women to lead change in their personal lives and in their organizations. Her keynote concluded with a champagne toast, after audience members were noticeably moved by her speech.

    Jack Theis Moderates Inside the White House Counsel’s Office Panel

    Crisis management at the top of the Executive Branch. RSHC attorney Jack Theis moderated a panel with his former colleagues from the White House Counsel’s office who explained how they handled legal, policy, and political risk during the Obama Administration. RSHC co-sponsored the November 16 event with the American Constitution Society.

    Ron Safer - Panelist on WTTW Chicago Tonight Discussing Proposed Chicago Police Consent Decree

    Eddie Arruza from Chicago Tonight interviewed Ron Safer, RSHC Partner and former U.S. Attorneys’ Office Chief of the Criminal Division, Cara Hendrickson, Illinois Attorney General’s Public Interest Division Chief, and Brendan Shiller, a plaintiff’s attorney, on how the proposed Chicago Police Consent Decree might proceed after this week’s hearings. Ron commented, “You cannot let the perfect be the enemy of the good. It is a major step forward. It does not hamper the police, it helps the police.”

    RSHC Partner Steve Hankins begins a four-year term as President of the Alumnae/i Association of Vassar College

    On July 1, RSHC Partner Steve Hankins (’85) begins a four-year term as President of the Alumnae/i Association of Vassar College. He is also serving a second term on the college’s Board of Trustees. Steve says, “We’ll be supporting a new president [Elizabeth Bradley] who has some bold new visions, things every Vassar alum can rally around. We need to ensure that all of our alums feel that they belong. With the right alums engaging our students as mentors, ‘Vassar for a lifetime’ should be clear from day one on campus.”

    Cheryl Walker Chair of St. Louis Poet Laureate Selection Committee

    RSHC Of Counsel (and poet) Cheryl D. S. Walker has been appointed Chair of the eight-person task force to select the second St. Louis Poet Laureate. The selected candidate will serve a two-year term and promote the art of poetry and encourage literacy and learning throughout the St. Louis region. Nominations from the public are being accepted through July 20.
