Ronald S. Safer Interviewed in the Bloomberg Law on Bankruptcy Criminal Charges

Partner Ronald S. Safer was interviewed in the Bloomberg Law Article, “Bankruptcy Crime Referrals Rarely Result in Prosecutions,” where he remarked about the process of complex bankruptcy tax fraud cases. The Bloomberg Law article notes that tax fraud , which accounts for more than half of all bankruptcy crime referrals, is especially challenging since the alleged losses may not meet minimum monetary thresholds, or can be difficult to tie to intentional fraud. Safer stated, “There is an expression, ‘ignorance of the law is no excuse,’ but tax fraud is the exception to that. You do have to know that you have violated the tax code” in order to have committed a crime.
